In place already
Exclusively Green is an ongoing commitment
for Exclusive Hotels and we are constantly researching, reviewing
and trialing ways to improve our systems and reduce our carbon
footprint. Here are just some of the initiatives currently in
place.
Energy
Use
All of the Exclusive Hotels have moved to using more efficient
means of energy supply. From a Certified CHP (combined heat &
power) unit implemented at The Spa at Pennyhill
Park which converts an impressive 90 percent of the fuel into
useable energy, to solar power panels on the roof of the
administration building at Lainston House, Exclusive
Hotels are making a concerted effort to use efficient and
environmentally friendly methods of power supply.
- All mains electricity and gas purchased is from 100% renewable
supplies
- Energy saving and low voltage light bulbs have been installed
throughout Exclusive Hotels
- Timer switches and movement sensors are used for light switches
wherever appropriate
- All non essential computers are switched off when not in use
instead of being left on standby
Recycling
A large amount of recycling goes on across all of our hotels
with new targets constantly being set to ensure our recycling
methods continue and improve. Just some of the huge strides forward
that we have achieved are shared with you here...
- All the properties across Exclusive Hotels are recycling glass,
paper, cardboard and printer cartridges
- Pennyhill Park Hotel has implemented a "Co-Mingled" recycling
initiative which allows us to recycle all of the above as well as
plastics, polystyrene, tin, Tetra packs and Clingfilm - an
initiative which will be introduced across the Group in coming
months
- Since implementation, Pennyhill Park has seen an
impressive 40% reduction in the volume of waste being sent to
landfill or incineration
- One of our properties is currently trialing a system that
allows us to provide purified drinking water in re-usable bottles
reducing the number of bottles entering the waste stream by 18,000
per year
- Pennyhill Park Hotel have commissioned a fully networked
printing solution that has made 95% of desk top printers redundant
and ensures duplex printing resulting in a 30% reduction in paper
consumption
Food and
drink
Food Heroes is an initiative all of our chefs and kitchen teams
are passionate about. Supporting local suppliers and using the very
best seasonal produce they not only develop excitingly varied menus
but they also reduce food miles.
- Lainston House and the Manor House each have their own
kitchen gardens, along with a herb garden at Pennyhill Park Hotel
producing a variety of organic vegetables and herbs as well as
areas for composting
- Fairtrade and Rain Forest Alliance certified tea, coffee and a
selection of Fairtrade and Organic wines are available at all the
properties
- The bore hole at Pennyhill Park delivers approximately 65% of
the hotel's water supply
- Lainston House and Pennyhill Park have both installed bee hives
around their extensive grounds with the honey being used in the
restaurants
Materials
and equipment
All paper and disposable products sourced by the hotels are from
recycled and/or renewable sources including our brochures and
promotional materials.
- All new plastic containers are made from PET plastics where
possible
- Priority is given to 'green suppliers' such as carbon neutral
wine suppliers, stationery providers, etc
- All new build and renovation projects incorporate new energy
saving technologies such as ground source heat pumps, water
aerators and LED lighting
- The new fleet of golf buggies at the Manor House Golf Club
automatically charge as they travel downhill (there are lots of
hills on this course!) reducing the energy needed to power them.
This is also planned for Mannings Heath Golf Club in the near
future
Communication
Green committees are in place at all the Exclusive Hotels as
well as a central Group Committee. These groups are responsible for
gathering and sharing ideas from the entire Exclusive Hotels
workforce.
- Newsletters and noticeboards communicate progress and
initiatives internally
